I actually got the new AC10C1 in the past year, and while that's arguably a 'better' Vox tone, it wouldn't exaggeration. The Pathfinder is an excellent pedal platform, but what really makes it special is tube-like 'just a little dirty' saturation that solid state preamp manages to achieve. I’m not sure how true to the tube version these are generally, but I’m finding myself thinking my next amp may be an AC4 or AC15 HW…. Vox cleans aren't really about a booming low end anyway. I’m not sure how true to the tube version these are generally, but I’m finding myself thinking my next amp may be an AC4 or AC15 HW…. Definitely fills a niche in my music room. My Casino has a softer edge and darker tone, which I think offsets the SS harshness (not that I’d call this amp harsh) but that combination seems to work nicely.Īnyway, I don’t think it’s a holy grail tone, but it’s definately a very nice, portable, no fuss little amp that I think will remain in my armoury for a long time. But I find it doesn’t suffer from that very edgy tone I’ve found in Fender SS amps for example.Įpiphone Casino. But, this thing sounds darn near as good as plenty of 1000+ amps Ive had. It gets mushy on the low strings when gained up for Metallica-type stuff. It takes pedals as well as any all-solid-state amp. I think the Vox Pathfinder 15 is the best buy in a sub-200 practice amp, without a doubt. I use it with the Vox AC30OTB amp setting, and it takes pedals very well. It can do clean to blues to hard rock with a pedal pushing it. The 15R is absurdly good value for money 6 years ago in Pathfinder 15R. The comment above about it having too fast an attack to be compared to a small tube amp is correct. The Vox Pathfinder is the best bang for buck guitar amp Ive ever bought. Not bad! Definately not in the league of my DRRI but still cool. the most in any Valvetronix amp along with a diverse selection of pedal. I really like the clean to edge of break up tone of the non boost setting. I’ve got the footswitch for the boost and tremolo which is handy.īoost.
